Secret Stairs
I first posted our call for submissions for Silver Empire's "Stairs in the Woods" anthology nearly two years ago. Several events transpired behind the scenes that caused us to delay the initial release. And then something crazy happened... The submission page went viral. That was kind of strange, but it happened. And we ended up with a ridiculous number of submissions - more submissions for this single anthology than for all other Silver Empire anthologies combined. For months now I've had to fend off the questions: "when is the stairs anthology coming?" Well, we finally managed to comb through all of the submissions. We finalized our list and culled it down to "only" 34 stories. And now I'm thrilled to tell you all that not only is Secret Stairs - A Tribute to Urban Legend now available, but it's also the #1 New Release in horror anthologies! You can get the Kindle edition on Amazon for only $0.99 if you buy it by this Saturday. The paperback edition clocked in at $24.99 because this turned into a beast at 668 pages.

You mustn't talk about the stairs.

There they stand, surrounded by nothing but forest, pristine as the day they were built. No sign remains of any other structure around them, no ruins of long forgotten buildings. They look... wrong. They feel wrong. Bad things happen if you get too close. Horrible things. You must never, ever ever talk about them. Thirty-four of today's best up and coming writers provide wonderfully unique interpretations inspired by the urban legends of the Internet age. Tales range from science fiction to fantasy, horror to mystery, and one writer even penned a romance! But you must never tell anyone about the stairs! The Inaugural FirstDayFirstPage

Good morning and welcome to February!

Silver Empire is excited to announce that on the first day of every month we're going to host a hashtag called #FirstDayFirstPage. In it all kinds of authors (not just ours!) will be posting the first page of their novels for readers to check out. It's a great way to find a new book to read for the weekend! We'll be hosting it on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

We will also pick the highlights of this event to post on this blog, and create twitter moments as well so you can find all the great first pages out there.

Here is our offering for this first #FirstDayFirstPage, from Russell Newquist's VIGIL:

In Vigil, modern day paladin Peter Bishop has to kill the dragon and save the girl before dawn in this Big Trouble in Little China meets Jim Butcher urban fantasy adventure. There's a DRAGON in the church! It is available at Amazon, and is free for subscribers of Kindle Unlimited.

DRAGON AWARD NOMINATED AUTHOR SIGNS FIVE BOOK DEAL

Declan Finn, Dragon Award nominated author of Honor at Stake, signs deal with Silver Empire

HARVEST, Ala. (November 7, 2016) – From vampire horror to satire to science fiction, Declan Finn's imagination has brought no end of excitement to life for his readers. Now the noteworthy Dragon Award nominated author of Honor at Stake is teaming with Silver Empire Publishing to bring his thriller series, The Pius Trilogy, to new readers. The five book deal includes the original Pius Trilogy - A Pius Man, A Pius Legacy, and A Pius Stand. It also includes Pius Tales, a collection of short stories feature characters from the Pius Trilogy, and Pius History, a non-fiction account of the actual history behind the series. A political and religious thriller in the vein of a more historically accurate Dan Brown, A Pius Man takes readers on an action packed romp through the innards of Rome and the Vatican. The tale follows the adventures of Sean A.P. Ryan - stuntman, martial artist, security consultant, and all around badass - and Scott "Mossad" Murphy, among others, as they unravel a conspiracy designed to undermine the new pope and even bring down the Catholic Church itself. “We're really excited to add the Pius Trilogy to our lineup,” said Russell Newquist, owner of Silver Empire Publishing. “Fans will love Declan Finn's masterful suspense thriller. Most of all, the subject matter is a perfect fit for Silver Empire.” Declan Finn lives in a part of New York City unreachable by bus or subway. Who's Who has no record of him, his family, or his education. You can find his ramblings over at The Catholic Geeks and his rantings on writing at apiusman.blogspot.com. But to hear him really rant and rave, check out his interview show at The Catholic Geek podcast, over at Blog Talk Radio. ‘A Pius Man’ will continue to be available in its current paperback and e-book formats on amazon.com through November 18, 2016. New editions will be released soon by Silver Empire. If you would like your copy autographed or would like to purchase an autographed copy in person, contact Declan Finn at DeclanFinnInc@aol.com to make arrangements. AUTHOR WITH CLOSE CONNECTIONS COMES HOME

Susan McPhail, author of The Treasures of Dodrazeb: The Origin Key, visits Carthage

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (August 29, 2016) – From William Faulkner to John Grisham, Shelby Foote to Greg Iles, many great Southern authors have hailed from Mississippi. Susan (S.D.) McPhail, author of the newly published ‘The Treasures of Dodrazeb: The Origin Key,’ carries on this great tradition and will be visiting Carthage September 3-4 for the Labor Day holiday weekend. She will have copies of her book available for purchase and autograph. “I’m always happy to visit my Mississippi family, and Carthage holds a special place in my heart as my husband’s hometown,” said. McPhail. “This visit is special because this is the first time I’ve been home since publishing my book, and I’m very excited to share it with friends and family in the area.” ‘The Treasures of Dodrazeb’ chronicles the adventures of Prince Rasteem, a third-century Persian warrior, when he invades an ancient kingdom hiding powerful  technology. Rasteem must convince a scheming princess to help him retrieve the Origin Key before it is used by a nefarious criminal known as the Viper to wreak havoc in Dodrazeb and destroy the Persian Empire. Released July 30, 2016 by Silver Empire Publishing, this is the first book in this series. A book release party was held on August 12 in Huntsville, and was attended by over 200 people from Alabama, Mississippi, and southern Tennessee. “This is the latest publication for Silver Empire and we couldn’t be more proud of the reception ‘The Treasures of Dodrazeb’ has had in the last month,” said Russell Newquist, owner of Silver Empire Publishing. “Susan McPhail is definitely an author to watch. Her book hooked me from the first page, and I knew it would be a good fit for Silver Empire.” McPhail (formerly Welch, of Crystal Springs, Miss.) currently lives in Huntsville, Ala. and has been happily married for nearly 39 years to Rick McPhail (Carthage High School class of 1975). The couple met while attending Mississippi State University, and then embarked on a journey that would take them halfway around the world when Rick joined the Air Force and was stationed in Japan. All the while, she considered Carthage part of her roots, and in-laws Logan and Mavis McPhail as second parents. ‘The Treasures of Dodrazeb: The Origin Key’ is available in paperback and e-book formats on amazon.com. If you would like your copy autographed or would like to purchase an autographed copy in person, contact Susan McPhail at sdmcphail@comcast.net to make arrangements.
